What if I Don't Enroll

If you do not make an active benefit election during Annual Enrollment for 2027, your 2026 benefit elections will carry over to 2027, with the exception of your HSA and FSA contributions.

HSA* and FSA** contributions: Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) contributions do not carry over from 2026 to 2027; you must actively elect contributions during this Annual Enrollment period if you wish to participate in 2027.

*Health Savings Accounts are not available for employees located in Hawaii or Puerto Rico
**Flexible spending accounts are not available for employees located in Puerto Rico. Hawaii employees are not eligible to participate in the Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account (LPFSA).

Working Spouse Surcharge Carryover

If you cover a spouse or domestic partner under a Bayer medical plan*, your coverage and current working spouse surcharge status will automatically carry over to 2027. To ensure your spouse surcharge status is accurate, it is important you complete the surcharge attestation during Annual Enrollment.

Depending on your current enrollment, the carryover will be as follows:

  • If you are currently enrolled in the spouse surcharge in 2026 and you do not update the surcharge attestation during Annual Enrollment: Your spouse or domestic partner coverage and the $100 monthly surcharge will carry over to 2027. This surcharge will be applied to your 2027 medical premiums.
  • If you are not enrolled in the spouse surcharge in 2026: Your spouse or domestic partner coverage and the surcharge election will carry over, and the monthly surcharge will not be applied.

*The working spouse surcharge will not apply in 2027 if your spouse or domestic partner was only enrolled in dental or vision.

Review the medical options available through your spouse’s or domestic partner’s employer and coordinate enrollment dates before making changes.

For more information, please review the Working Spouse Surcharge FAQs.

Decision Support

Understand your medical benefits and what they can do for you and your family through Fidelity's decision support tools:
