If you are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, Bayer offers an RMA to help cover your health care expenses in retirement. When you first become eligible (either upon your date of hire or when you reach age 40, whichever is later), Bayer will contribute $125 a month for every full month worked, which is $1,500 per full year of Bayer U.S. service after age 40.
When you terminate employment, if you meet the definition of an eligible retiree, you can use the account to pay for your retiree medical premiums and/or out-of-pocket health care expenses. Eligible employees are allotted ten (10) days of back-up care per calendar year and may trade back-up care for Pet Care or Virtual Tutoring hours. Bayer is subsidizing some of the cost of the back-up care program to help reduce the amount that employees pay. Employees are responsible for paying a copayment directly to Bright Horizons for the use of the back-up care program:
- Center-based childcare: $15/child per day, $25/family per day
- In-home care (childcare or adult/elder care): $8 per hour, 4-hour minimum
- Virtual Tutoring: $15 for 4 hours of virtual tutoring
- Pet Care: No copay
Back-Up Care* – This benefit provides back-up childcare and adult/elder care support with access to a national network of quality, licensed dependent care providers including center-based back-up care, in-home back-up care and in-home back-up adult/elder care. This benefit provides support when:
- Your child’s regular center or school is closed,
- Your spouse/partner or other adult family member is ill or recovering from an injury and needs temporary assistance,
- You are transitioning between child or adult/elder care arrangements,
- Your child is mildly ill and needs to stay home,
- Your parent’s regular in-home care provider is unavailable,
- Your grandparents live out-of-state and need assistance,
- You are recuperating from an injury or surgery and need temporary assistance for yourself.
Additional information on Bright Horizons can be found below:
Virtual Tutoring – Use your Bright Horizons Back-Up Care benefit to reserve an experienced tutor to help your 5-18 year-old stay on track — whether during the school year of over summer break. One (1) back-up care day can be exchanged for four (4) hours of virtual tutoring. Benefits include:
- Instant homework help in reading, math, science, social studies, and 300+ other subjects
- Targeted support with a math or reading expert who can identify areas of opportunity and help your child excel
Pet Care – Use your Bright Horizons Back-Up Care benefit towards pet care including dog walking, boarding and pet sitting. One (1) back-up care day can be exchanged for pet care.
Copayments:
Bayer is subsidizing some of the cost of the back-up care program to help reduce the amount that employees pay. Employees are responsible for paying a copayment directly to Bright Horizons for the use of the back-up care program:
- Center-based childcare: $15/child per day, $25/family per day
- In-home care (childcare or adult/elder care): $8 per hour, 4-hour minimum
- Virtual Tutoring: $15 for four (4) hours of virtual tutoring
- Pet Care: No copay
You can reserve back-up care up to 60 days in advance. Cancellations must be received two (2) business days prior to the reservation to avoid paying a copay or using days.
*Full-time regular and part-time regular benefit eligible employees are eligible to use the Back-Up Care Program.
NOTE: Because Bayer is subsidizing a portion of the cost, the back-up care program is considered a taxable benefit. The difference between the fair market Value of Care and the employee copayment is considered a taxable benefit and is treated by the IRS as additional income to the employee. For further details view Examples of Bright Horizons Imputed Income.
